BUSINESSES gathered at events in Portland and Weymouth to hear how they can ‘keep on running’ during the 2012 Olympic sailing events.
Weymouth is one of just two venues, outside London, being given specialist help to plan business transport operations during the home Games.
Six borough workshops were held last week and a Dorchester event is taking place today to kick start regular sessions from November until April next year.
Chris Hook, of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), told a group of 20 business representatives at The Heights Hotel, Portland that 60,000 people a day were expected to visit Weymouth and Portland from July 27 to August 12, 2012.
He said this encompassed the usual 33,000-strong summer visitor population and an extra 27,000 day visitors, although sunny days and top performances by British sailors could attract ‘much, much more’.
Mr Hook said plans already announced included 7,000 temporary park and ride spaces to boost the 1,500 existing spaces, a transport hub, two buses a minute going to the town centre and a double-capacity rail service.
