Can I use mapping application on iphone driving anacapa to daward lee falls where there is no wifi or 3g?

I will be driving a ridge trail in anacapa to daward lee falls and for about 70 miles there is no cell signal.
I am wondering will my gps/ topo mapping software still work on the iphone. Any way to tell if its gps of 3g powered?

iphone has a GPS it just depends if your software requires internet to work
