How do I access data from a SQL server?

I'm not familiar with SQL servers.
I'm working with a program that stores its data on an SQL server.
The program basically stores user information, name, age, address, email, etc.
What kind of program do I need to use to access the

There are so many ways to do this!

The easiest for a non-programmer is probably just using Microsoft Excel. The newer editions all connect seamlessly to any Microsoft SQL Server and lets you do queries and display the data.
