What is the difference between USB car radio and USB car radio with iPod support?

The question is simple: What is the difference between a USB car radio and a USB car radio with iPod support?
If someone owns an iPod and plugs it to a regular USB car radio, what happens? What are the benefits of purchasing a USB car radio
The USB only will view whatever is connected to it as a storage device. ie; USB jumpdrive etc. In some cases you will still have to control the iPod or iPhone manually.
The USB / iPod, iPhone support radio will allow you to control all the functions
