How do I get my iPod dock remote control to work with my iPod?

Hi, I just got Sony SRS-GU10iP speakers for my iPod. I have the iPod classic (80 GB) and everything is fine apart from the iPod functions on the remote control don't seem to work. Any help? Thanks :)
