Ipod music?

Do I have to get all my music from ITunes if i want to put them on my ipod? and can I put on the music I already have in windows media player?

I don't have an Ipod Yet I'm actally saving up for one. After I read a lot about them when I had an old ipod like those first ones and when I put music on them I didn't always use Itunes. You can get them off Itunes obiously and I alway got my music from
